My Story

Alison is a mother of three children and one amazing fur baby, a Cavoodle named Ruby. She lives on the Central Coast with her family and has proudly called this place home her whole life. As a mother, Alison understands the complex need of children, and the pain and heartache a parent feels when they notice their child is experiencing difficulties. Her eldest child has a diagnosis of Autism, ADHD (combine type) and Learning disabilities in reading, writing, and maths. Her second eldest, her only son, has a diagnosis of Autism, ADHD (combine type) and learning disability impacting writing. While her youngest has a diagnosis of Anxiety and had complex needs as a baby.

It is Alison's experiences that was the driving force of her studies and the creation of Central Coast MSL. When looking for support for her daughters learning difficulties Alison noticed the lack of understanding and support for children with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and Dysgraphia. There was much misinformation regarding what was an effective intervention and what was snake oil. After researching the science of reading Alison extended her studies to branch out to an evidence-based approach to learning disabilities.

Alison enjoys helping children big and small make connections to the written world, and remove the barriers of written communication. She understands that everyone learns differently and at a different pace and therefore should be taught in a manner that suits their needs.  Alison has a Bachelor of Education but also has completed many evidence-based specialty courses in the science of reading, literacy, morphology, and multisensory maths.

When not in the clinic Alison is either running her three children to various appointments or enjoying the finer things in life such as chocolate. Alison likes going away camping with her family and playing soccer on the weekends. She is a supporter of the Central Coast Mariners in the A-league and Canberra United in the W-league and also loves watching the Matildas play.
